Why Do We Talk About Money?

As we continue to address a few questions that Christians often wrestle with, our focus this week will be on the topic of giving, tithing, offerings, etc.  Whether it's true or not, it sure seems like many churches spend a lot of time focusing on money.  I trust that is not anyone's impression of Community Presbyterian ... in fact, I've only heard criticism over the years that we don't talk about it enough.  But the stigma remains that churches are obsessed with getting your money!

This Sunday we will examine 2 Corinthians 8:1-7 and seek to uncover why Paul was speaking to the church in Corinth about their giving.  And, by God's grace, we trust that God will challenge us in regard to this important aspect of the Christian life.  Paul told the Corinthians to "excel in this act of grace" (v.7) and, thus, so should we excel in this same act of grace.  Please prayerfully read this passage in preparation for Sunday's worship service.

In addition, please take note of the following important matters:

  • we will enjoy the Lord's Supper this Sunday (1 Dec)
  • next Sunday (8 Dec) we will have a congregational meeting during the Sunday School hour to elect officers, receive the 2014 budget, and hear a report from our deacons regarding some capital improvements to our facilities
  • we are helping a few local needy families this Christmas season through our Community Groups; contact a community group leader for more info

I trust you, your family, and friends enjoy a very happy Thanksgiving!  Please pray for the many individuals and families who will be traveling during this time; pray for relationships to be reconciled; pray for the Gospel to be the focus of conversations around our tables!
